Privacy Policy
Effective July 19, 2026
DetroitPolice.Auction is an independent public-information service. It is not owned, operated, or endorsed by the Detroit Police Department, the City of Detroit, or another government agency.
Information we process
- Website requests may include an IP address, browser and device details, requested pages, timestamps, and security or error logs.
- VINs, search terms, filters, and other requests are processed to return auction and vehicle results.
- The website uses an essential security cookie and a short-lived preference cookie that remembers dismissal of the welcome notice.
- We no longer offer text-message alerts and do not collect telephone numbers for alerts.
iOS app information
- A random app-install identifier and Apple Push Notification service token are stored when you enable notifications.
- Notification choices, quiet hours, delivery timing, vehicle watch terms, favorite VINs, delivery status, and notification-open status are stored for app functionality.
- Limited diagnostics may include app version, build, iOS version, device family, and counts of performance or diagnostic reports. Raw crash reports are not sent to DetroitPolice.Auction by this feature.
- Favorites, comparisons, recently decoded VINs, auction visits, and downloaded content are also stored locally on your device.
- The camera is used to scan VIN barcodes. The app does not retain or upload a photograph of the barcode.
- If you opt in, Microsoft Clarity collects app interactions, screen names, device/app metadata, and masked session recordings to help us improve usability. User-entered VINs, searches, notes, API settings, notification content, and tokens are not used as analytics tags and input controls are masked.
Services and sharing
- Cloudflare provides delivery and security services. Cloudflare Turnstile may process technical information when a protected website form is used.
- The website uses Google Analytics to understand usage and Google AdSense to display advertising. Those providers may process device, cookie, and interaction data under their own policies.
- The iOS app uses Apple services for push notifications and, only after optional consent, Microsoft Clarity for product analytics and masked session replay. It may open official third-party pages in an in-app Safari browser. Those providers and destinations apply their own privacy policies.
- The iOS app displays Google AdMob banner ads. Google may process device, advertising, approximate-location, interaction, and diagnostic data to provide, measure, and protect ads under Google's privacy policy. User-entered VINs, searches, notes, watch terms, and notification content are not added to ad requests. The app does not request permission for cross-app tracking.
- We do not sell personal information. We disclose information only to operate and secure the service, comply with law, or protect users and the service.
Retention and your choices
- Operational and security records are retained only as reasonably needed for reliability, abuse prevention, and legal obligations.
- You can use Advertising Privacy Choices in Settings when Google requires that option, disable Clarity analytics, disable notifications in iOS Settings, unregister the device, clear downloaded app data, and remove saved watch terms or favorites.
- Deleting the app removes its locally stored information. Restricted encrypted backups expire under the applicable backup-retention schedule.
